History of Jewelry
in Pagan Times
The use of jewelry--items made of stone,
rock, gems, and/or metals--is as old as
civilization itself. Even in modern times,
its purpose is more than simply for
decoration. The jewelry we wear tells an
acute observer much about our culture, our
interests, our social position, our
spirituality and our view of ourselves.
In ancient times, jewelry often served as
a means of healing. In China, jewelry,
particularly earrings, was used in
combination with acupuncture. A gold earring
in an acupuncture point would bring energy
(yang) to an organ, while a silver earring
would relax and release excess energy by
reason of its yin properties.
Jeanne
Elizabeth Blum, author of Woman, Heal
Thyself, tells us that gemstones were
added to attract "energy from the planets
that governed them, planets also associated
with the Five Elements and the individual
organs."

Elaine Sonne, in Legends of the
Stones, tells us that "All stones, rocks
and gems--crystals, lapis lazuli, amethyst,
jade pearls, etc.--have electromagnetic
energy that changes the resonance in the
body, causing cells to regenerate and
realign. Color changes the Chakras, the
energy points in our body, soothing nerves,
and strengthening immune systems and lymph
nodes."
Our pendants combine the healthful
attributes of jewelry with the archetypes of
the goddesses, making them a treasured gift
for yourself or someone you love.
